If your property stands in a place where there is uneven land, then having concrete retaining walls constructed will not only be good, but more so, ideal in your situation. To give you an idea of the setting where retaining walls will be needed, here are some examples. If you have a house in a hilly, mountainous, rolling area, or that by a cliff, then you will benefit from the extra protection that can be afforded to you by concrete retaining walls. To better plan how these types of structures can be optimized in your setting, you need to start planning with a concrete company in your area to explore your options.
In a basic sense, the retaining wall will help hold up the exposed soil to prevent it from collapsing. This is why concrete retaining walls are not just purely concrete. Usually, they have a backbone that is composed of steel and other metals that will support the shape of the structure. in some cases, soil reinforcement is also added to make sure that the retaining wall can hold up better.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a concrete driveway cost in Baton Rouge?
HomeGuide's national figures for 2026 put a concrete driveway at $6 to $15 per square foot, or $2,400 to $8,600 for a two-car driveway. Those are not our quotes. Size, tear-out, base work on clay and finish set your price. Our concrete cost guide has more.
Why does concrete crack so much in Baton Rouge?
The clay under most of the city swells when wet and shrinks when dry, so slabs are flexed every season. A compacted base, steel, correct joints and good drainage keep cracks few and tight.
Do I need a permit to widen my driveway?
Yes. The city-parish Permits and Inspections Division lists adding to or expanding a driveway as work that needs a permit. A culvert in a ditch needs the Department of Development's permission.
Who has to repair the sidewalk in front of my house?
The lot owner. The city-parish code makes owners responsible for keeping the paved sidewalk in front of their property in repair. Report issues through Red Stick 311.
How soon can I use new concrete?
Walk on it after a day or two. Drive a car on it after about a week. Keep heavy trucks off for about 28 days, when it reaches design strength.
Who calls 811 before you dig?
We do when we are the ones digging. Louisiana law requires notice to Louisiana 811 at least 48 hours ahead, not counting weekends and holidays. The service is free.
How long before I can use new concrete?
You can usually walk on it after 1-2 days and drive on it after about 7 days. It keeps gaining strength for about a month.
Do you remove the old concrete?
Yes. Tear-out and haul-away are part of our quote when a replacement is needed.
Can cracked concrete be repaired?
Small cracks and surface damage can often be repaired or resurfaced. Slabs that have sunk or broken up usually need to be replaced. We tell you which applies.
Do I need a permit for concrete work in Baton Rouge?
Driveway approaches, sidewalks and structural slabs often need a permit. We check the rules for your address.
