Stamped concrete gives a stone, brick or plank look in a single slab. Baton Rouge heat shortens the time a crew has to press the pattern, and afternoon rain makes glossy sealers slick. We plan the pour and the sealer around both and show you samples first.
Stamped concrete is ordinary concrete with color added and a pattern pressed into it before it hardens. It can look like slate, flagstone, brick or wood plank. In Baton Rouge the timing of that pressing is the hard part. On a hot, humid morning the surface can go from too wet to too stiff in a short window, and a pattern stamped late comes out shallow or uneven. We schedule decorative pours early, bring enough hands and keep the slab sections small enough to finish properly.
The sealer is what gives stamped work its depth of color, and it is also where most complaints start. A glossy film is slippery when wet, and our afternoons are wet. Around doors, steps and pools we put a grip additive in the sealer or use a lower-sheen product. Moisture rising out of damp ground can also get trapped under a sealer and turn it milky, so we use products that let vapor through and we never seal a slab that is still giving off water.
Be realistic about upkeep. The color is in the surface, and the sealer over it wears under sun, rain and tires. It needs to be cleaned and recoated from time to time. Stamped concrete also cracks like any other slab on moving clay. Joints hidden in the pattern lines control where, but no one can honestly promise a crack-free slab on this ground.
Stamped & decorative concrete in Baton Rouge: common questions
Will stamped concrete be slippery around my back door?
It can be if it is sealed with a high-gloss product and nothing else. Ask for a grip additive or a matte sealer, and for a pattern with real texture. We treat any area that gets rained on and walked on as a wet area.
How does stamped concrete hold up in Louisiana sun?
The concrete holds up well. The sealer and the surface color fade with years of strong sun and need renewing. Lighter earth tones hide fading better than deep reds and charcoals, and they stay cooler under bare feet.
Can you match the stamped patio I already have?
We can get close on pattern if the stamp is a common one. Color is harder, because your old slab has weathered. A border or a deliberate contrast often looks better than a near match. We show you a sample before you decide.
