Plain concrete flatwork runs $6 to $12 per square foot installed across the country in 2026. We do not post a Baton Rouge price list. Two driveways of the same size can differ a lot here, because one sits on firm ground and the other on wet clay that has to be dug out and replaced.
The dollar figures on this page are national ranges published by HomeGuide for 2026. They are not quotes from Baton Rouge Concrete Solutions. What you pay in Baton Rouge depends on local labor and material prices, access to the site and how much base work the clay under your slab needs. Last checked October 2026.
How much does a concrete driveway cost?
The national range for a concrete driveway is $6 to $15 per square foot, which puts a two-car driveway at $2,400 to $8,600. Plain gray concrete falls at $6 to $10 per square foot. Basic decorative finishes fall at $10 to $15. In Baton Rouge the things that push a driveway price up are tear-out of the old slab, replacing soft clay with compacted base, a culvert crossing and extra thickness for trucks or trailers.
| Driveway | National installed price |
|---|---|
| Plain, per sq ft | $6 to $10 |
| Basic decorative, per sq ft | $10 to $15 |
| 20x20, 400 sq ft | $2,400 to $6,000 |
| 24x24, 576 sq ft | $3,500 to $8,600 |
How much does concrete cost per square foot?
Installed slab concrete is $6 to $12 per square foot nationally. Thickness moves it: a 4 inch slab is $6 to $8 per square foot and a 6 inch slab is $8 to $10. That price is for the finished slab, with forms, base, concrete, labor and finishing. Demolition, hauled-in fill, a pump truck for a back yard and decorative work are extra.
How much does a concrete patio cost? Is my 20x20 quote a fair price?
A plain patio is $4 to $12 per square foot nationally. Stained or stamped patios are $8 to $30. For a 20x20 patio, which is 400 square feet, the published range is $1,600 to $4,800 plain and $3,200 to $12,000 stained or stamped. A plain 12x12 is $600 to $1,700. There is no published row for 12x20 or 16x20, so work those out from your square footage and the per-foot range: 240 and 320 square feet.
How much does it cost to pour a slab for a 24x24 garage or a 30x40 shop?
HomeGuide lists slab prices of $600 to $1,200 for a 10x10, $860 to $1,700 for a 12x12, $2,400 to $4,800 for a 20x20 and $5,400 to $10,800 for a 30x30. It has no row for a 24x24 or a 30x40. Multiplying its $6 to $12 per square foot figure gives $3,460 to $6,900 for 24x24 (576 square feet) and $7,200 to $14,400 for 30x40 (1,200 square feet). That is arithmetic, not a published price. A building slab on Baton Rouge clay often needs grade beams or post-tensioning from an engineer's design, and a lot in a flood zone may need a raised pad. Both are priced from the plans.
How much is a yard of concrete?
Ready-mix is $119 to $147 per cubic yard nationally, delivered within 20 miles. One yard covers about 81 square feet at 4 inches thick. The concrete itself is a small share of a finished job. Digging, base, forms, steel, finishing and cleanup make up most of the bill, so the price per yard is a poor guide to what a slab will cost.
How much does it cost to remove and replace an old driveway, with the old concrete hauled away?
Removal is $3 to $8 per square foot nationally with disposal included, and taking out a whole driveway is $1,200 to $4,500. To remove and replace, add that to the $6 to $15 per square foot for the new driveway. If you only want old concrete broken up and hauled away, with nothing poured back, the removal range is the whole price. Our replacement quotes show tear-out as a separate line.
How much more does stamped concrete cost than plain, and what about color or stain?
Stamped concrete cost is $8 to $19 per square foot nationally. Compare that with $6 to $10 for a plain driveway or $4 to $12 for a plain patio. Published examples are $3,200 to $7,600 for a 20x20 stamped patio, $6,900 to $10,400 for a two-car stamped driveway and $800 to $1,700 for a 4x20 stamped walk. For color or stain on its own, no separate figure was published, so we will not make one up. We price color or stain once we have seen the slab and you have picked a shade.
How much does a concrete walkway cost?
The national walkway cost is $7 to $17 per square foot installed. At 4 feet wide that is $28 to $68 per running foot, and an average job is $1,400 to $3,400. Short walks cost more per foot than long ones because the truck, the crew and the setup are the same either way.
How much does a concrete retaining wall cost?
The national retaining wall cost for concrete is $3,000 to $10,000 for an average wall, or $45 to $270 per linear foot, or $15 to $45 per square foot of wall face. The wide spread comes from height. A taller wall needs a much bigger footing and more steel. Around Baton Rouge, drainage stone behind the wall is not optional, because wet clay is what pushes walls over.
How much does a parking pad or sidewalk cost for a small business?
No published figure exists for commercial parking pads, so we give no number for them. A small business slab is priced after a visit, because truck weight, drainage, the accessible route and any work in the street right of way all change the design. For a plain sidewalk outside a shop, the walkway range above is a fair starting point.
I got three quotes for the same patio and they are far apart. Which one is right?
The right one is the quote that tells you what is being built. When quotes are far apart, the low bidder has usually left something out, and on clay the thing left out is under the slab. Line the three up and compare the depth of excavation, the base material, the thickness, the steel, the joints, the finish and the haul-away. If a quote does not state those, ask. A contractor who cannot answer has not priced them.
The contractor wants extra for a gravel base after tearing out the old slab. Is that fair?
It can be, if the quote allowed for it. No one sees the soil until the old concrete is gone. If the crew uncovers saturated clay, rotted roots or an old trench, more base is needed and it costs money. What is not fair is a surprise. A sound quote names a unit price for extra base before work starts. If you are asked to pay extra for the gravel with nothing in writing, go and look at the hole, take photos and get the change on paper first.
How do I know if a concrete quote is fair?
A quote is fair when the price falls within the published range for that kind of work and the paper lists what you get. Check for square feet, thickness, base and compaction, reinforcement, joint spacing, finish, removal, permit, 811 request and cleanup. Check the payment terms too. A cheap one-line quote is not a bargain. It is a price for work nobody has described.
